A workshop with Latin tutor, Penny Martin, on Monday 13th September 2021, 11am – 1pm

Are you struggling with the Latin that you meet in family history & other documents?
If so, this is the workshop for you.

Latin was the natural choice of language for important legal documents of all types from early times until the vernacular language of the ordinary people took over. It was used by Kings, clerics and lawyers across the western world and it became a universal language; it is no surprise therefore that historic documents and records are often written in Latin, or contain particular Latin words and phrases.

During this two-hour workshop, Penny will teach you how to decode Latin documents in modern script (we will leave the palaeography for another day). There will also be a chance to look at Latin vocabulary and grammatical phrases and dip into Penny’s library of textbooks and guides.

Tickets are £10 each, and they must be purchased in advance as numbers are limited.
Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
