Shilstone House Tour | 18.02.24

On Sunday 18th February at 2:30pm Lucy Fenwick, the owner of Shilstone will lead a guided tour of Shilstone House and gardens. Guests will explore the history of the site through its surviving archaeology and rare architectural features before seeing the results of the restoration, including the recently completed panelled drawing room.

Tithe Barns of Devon | 07.03.2024

Tithe Barns were medieval structures built to store tithes – a system of taxation enforced by the church whereby one tenth of a farmer’s produce was offered as payment. Joseph Rogers, author of the 2021 book Tithe Barns, talks about their origins and their use in later centuries with a focus on those in Devon and surrounding counties that remain today. Joseph lived in East Devon for 15 years and presented at Shilstone in March last year for the Buildings Section of the Devonshire Association.
